Graduate Teaching Assistantship Available in French & Intercultural Communication (UMBC), source: Dr. Denis M. Provencher

Dear Colleagues,

I would very much appreciate if you could share this information with
your best undergraduate students who demonstrate potential for graduate
study and who possess advanced-level language proficiency in French.
Please encourage them to contact me if they are interested.

The Department of Modern Languages, Linguistics & Intercultural
Communication at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC)
currently has a vacant Graduate Teaching Assistantship in French, that
provides full tuition waiver, health benefits, and a monthly living
stipend.  We are seeking strong candidates who are interested in
pursuing an MA in our graduate program in Intercultural Communication.
Domesticate candidates generally can focus in French & Francophone
Studies.  Our international candidates generally choose a focus in U.S.
Culture /American Studies.   We also have secondary tracks that students
may choose in Intercultural Training, Intercultural Filmmaking, and
Intercultural Policy Studies.

An expanding field, Intercultural Communication is the study of the ways
in which social structuring, social assumptions and language use bear on
interactions between members of different cultures. The aim of the
program is to allow students to develop advanced foreign language
proficiency, to train them to function comfortably and effectively in
intercultural situations, and to prepare them for specific career goals
through individual courses of study and internships.

Our MA program in Intercultural Communication provides students strong
grant and scholarly writing skills for a wide array of careers
including, among others, Intercultural Training, Conflict Resolution
Management, International Education, Intercultural Web Design and
Curriculum Development, as well as Immigrant and Refugee Relief Efforts
in Non-Government Organizations.  Many of our graduates also pursue
teaching opportunities in ESOL and doctoral work at top research
institutions.
